Smoke Tail™ Skirt Technology

The special feature that sets Sekard Technology lures apart from all others on the market is the
unique Smoke Tail™ skirt system.

Before a lure can catch a fish, the fish has to see the lure. The ‘smoke trail’ left behind a lure as it travels through the water is the single biggest factor in drawing the attention of a patrolling fish. Even big lures are very small when compared to the vast ocean, but the ‘smoke trail’ can make their presence far more noticeable. It can be likened to a jet aircraft flying over at 30,000 feet. On its own that jet would be a tiny dot in a huge sky and could easily be missed, but the vapour trail left behind the jet engines is highly visible and draws the eye to the aircraft, making a tiny object highly visible. The ‘smoke trail’ behind a lure works in exactly the same way to a fish. The Sekard Technology Smoke Tail™ skirt system works to enhance the ‘smoke trail’ and other fish attracting qualities produced by the lure.

Most other lure manufacturers fit an outer and inner skirt made from smooth, shiny Vinyl (PVC). These skirts look very pretty but, other than giving stability to the lure head and adding some visual appeal, they do nothing to truly enhance or improve the performance of the lure. At Sekard Technology we replace the conventional outer skirt with our own unique Smoke Tail™ skirt to massively boost the fish attracting qualities of the lure.

The unique and devastatingly effective Sekard Technology Smoke Tail™ skirt system features individually engineered and highly textured skirt strands. This unique texturing allows the skirt to create more disturbance, more vibration and more SMOKE in the water, resulting in more strikes and more fish.

At slow trolling speeds, or in calm water conditions, Smoke Tail™ skirts add to the disturbance created by the lure. This gives Sekard Technology Smoke Tail™ lures a huge advantage over other manufacturers products fitted with conventional skirts. Smoke Tails™ greatly improve the fish attracting qualities of the lure.

In rough water conditions, or at fast trolling speeds, the Smoke Tail™ skirts help to add stability. They have the ability to ‘grip’ the water slightly, helping to keep the lure in the water and greatly reducing the problem of ‘blowing out’.

When you need to change the Smoke Tail™ skirts on your Sekard Technology lure you will find them incredibly quick and easy to fit. The outer and inner skirts are supplied ready mounted on a quick change push-fit skirt fitting. The whole skirt set can be changed in seconds.

CRIMP LOCK. The push-on skirt fitting that holds the outer and inner skirts incorporates an integral Crimp Lock to hold the crimp and to help keep the hook-set in correct alignment with the lure. The Crimp Lock is an integral part of the skirt fitting, it is not glued on, so it cannot come loose or tear off. The skirt fitting is made out of a highly tear resistant flexible polyurethane which has similar properties to natural rubber. Simply push the crimp into the Crimp Lock and it will hold in place. Clearly the Crimp Lock cannot be sized to be a perfect fit for every size of crimp. It will be a correct fit for crimps at the larger end of the scale; smaller crimps may need a couple of wraps of insulating tape to make them a snug fit.

When selecting skirt colours for Sekard Technology lures please refer to the Smoke Tail™ Skirt Colour Chart. This page shows the range of standard skirt colour combinations that we carry in stock. Custom skirt colour combinations are available to special order providing the individual colours are selected from our standard range.

Smoke Tail™ skirts are produced in ‘LIGHT’ and ‘HEAVY’ versions. The light versions are shorter and have thinner skirt strands and the heavy versions are longer and have thicker skirt strands. All small size lures use the light Smoke Tail™ skirts and all large size lures used the heavy Smoke Tail™ skirts. The medium size lures are available with a choice of either light or heavy Smoke Tail™ skirts.
